Christine
Hendrix was born in 1931 and grew up on a farm near Rimbey,
Alberta. As a child she fell in love with the beauty of God's creation.
She found her peace restored in times of turmoil by going alone into the
woods that were a part of her family's farm.
In
1952 she moved to Calgary where she met and married her husband,
Steve. Together they have four children, eight grandchildren and
one great grandchild. Her life was full and happy, however as the
children grew older and moved away from home, she knew it was time to
devote her talents to her art.
In
1979 Christine received her Art Degree at the Southern Alberta Institute
of Technology. Although trained in multiple disciplines, she finds
watercolour the medium that she can best express her feelings about the
subjects she paints. Her work is quite realistic, yet it has a
looseness that expresses her inner contentment.
In
1999 Christine and Steve moved to Tahsis, British Columbia, a quiet
and peaceful port village where she now paints and sells her art in
her own gallery. Here, amidst the rugged and beautiful west
coast rainforest and mountains, along the Nootka Sound, she finds
excitement and challenge in painting the ever changing scenery that
is continually transformed by the movement of mist and clouds.
Tourists are drawn to Tahsis from all over the world for its excellent
fishing and pristine beauty, resulting in an international market
for her art.
Christine's
watercolours have been displayed in galleries and art shows in Alberta
and British Columbia. Pieces are owned by the Alberta Government
Art Collection, have won many awards in shows and conventions, and are
held by many private collectors. She is an active member of the
Federation of Canadian Artists.
